The Challenge
Canon required a comprehensive language learning solution that addresses its dual objectives of enhancing career development and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion. However, the company faced the following challenges:
Face-to-face implementation of the company’s initial language training program
Limited personalization and content customization of the previous program for different job functions and levels
Lack of mobile access and digital flexibility for language lessons

How goFLUENT Helps
Scalable, Flexible Learning Across the Organization
With goFLUENT’s Corporate License, Canon successfully transitioned from a traditional, face-to-face language training model to a fully digital solution. This shift ensured that employees across all regions and functions could access language learning anytime, anywhere, paving the way for a more inclusive and scalable approach aligned with Canon’s workforce development goals.
Personalized Training for Real-World Impact
Language Academy provided Canon employees with uninterrupted access to Individual Lessons and Conversation Classes led by professional language trainers and conducted via virtual classroom technology. Unlike the previous one-size-fits-all program, goFLUENT’s approach delivered customized content tailored to specific job functions and proficiency levels. This ensured that learning was immediately applicable, driving day-to-day impact in communication and collaboration.
Embedding Learning into Daily Workflows
Canon made language development a natural part of daily professional growth through goFLUENT’s integration with its existing LMS and LXP systems. Having language learning readily available for employees increased visibility and ease of access, allowing for a seamless learning experience.
The Results
Transitioning from face-to-face training to a digital model delivered greater scale and inclusivity for Canon. Employees received accessible and personalized language learning, leading to improvements in engagement and performance across a wide range of roles, locations, and work schedules.

“We needed a solution that would provide accessibility and inclusivity, ensuring no one was left behind. We aimed to achieve two objectives: to support career development through the enhancement of language skills and to stay aligned with our diversity, equity, and inclusion goals. goFLUENT provided us with a solution that meets both aspects, offering the opportunity for development to everyone in the organization, regardless of their position or role at CANON.”

The platform’s flexibility, including mobile access, played a pivotal role in sustaining learner satisfaction and participation, especially for remote and field-based employees. Canon reported 289 active learners in 2024, with each active learner engaging in 10.2 hours of training, totaling 2,970 hours of completed activities. English represented 90% of the activity focus, aligning with Canon’s operational needs in multinational contexts.

“The platform provided me with the tools to improve my fluency and comprehension of the language. This has helped me increase my confidence when interacting with colleagues from other cultures, and I have been able to participate effectively in meetings and projects, which has allowed me to collaborate with CANON Europe more fluently.”

Learner
Trainer-led classes tailored to different skill levels and professional roles contributed to high learner engagement. This is evidenced by the program’s growth from an initial pilot group of 17 learners to the delivery of 156 hours of individual lessons and 259 conversation classes, with 40 learners participating in an average of six conversation sessions each. Employees not only improved their confidence in using new languages in professional settings but also valued the experience of learning through relevant, job-specific content. The structured language program, supported by integrations with internal systems and targeted learner communication from Canon, ensured a smooth adoption while meeting all security standards.
To maintain long-term motivation, Canon’s Learning and Development team continues to engage learners through gamification, learning challenges, and collaborative activities. These efforts help sustain the momentum of a program that has proven both strategic and transformative.
